At IFA 2026 on September 4, Minisforum introduced the N5 MAX-P495 with a Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 processor. It combines a NAS with local AI computing. A NAS is a computer with several disks that provides shared folders to other computers over a network.

Ordinarily, a document is retrieved from file storage and processed on another machine. The N5 MAX can run a model application alongside the files themselves. This allows the archive to be processed without sending it to an external service, provided the other application components also operate locally.

Disks for the archive, memory for the model

Minisforum’s announcement specifies up to 200 TB of local storage for the N5 MAX-P495. The introduced Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 systems have 192 GB of RAM, with up to 160 GB available for graphics.

Disk capacity determines how many files can be stored. RAM holds running programs, and the portion assigned to graphics serves model computation. A large disk archive need not be loaded into memory in full: search software selects documents or passages for a particular question.

What can run alongside the files

Minisforum lists knowledge bases, models, databases and software agents that perform sequences of actions. For document search, the NAS can hold both the files and the index, the prepared data used to find relevant passages.

A request proceeds as follows: an employee asks a question, search selects passages from the archive, and the model receives them and composes an answer. All these programs can operate on the local network. File access is configured separately: a shared model should not receive documents unavailable to the employee merely because they are on a neighbouring disk.

A restart also affects the documents

An isolated model application can be restarted separately. A system failure or update requiring the entire NAS to reboot, however, interrupts file access too. A backup on another device protects recoverability; by itself it does not keep shared folders available during downtime.

Separate programs still share hardware dependencies. The model and file service need memory, processors and disks; heavy processing can slow file access. Moving the model to another computer allows it to be serviced and restarted independently of storage.

What is known about the new version’s speed

ITPro has reviewed an earlier N5 MAX configuration. That review cannot be applied to the Pro 495 version: the hardware has changed, while software and model selection also affect results.

The TOPS figure in the announcement describes a theoretical number of simple operations per second. It does not tell an employee how long an answer will take or how much slower file copying becomes while the model runs.

Minisforum also showed a two-device arrangement

In the same IFA announcement, the company introduced the MS-S1 MAX-P495. In its proposed pairing, the N5 MAX holds data, models and knowledge bases, while the MS-S1 handles intensive computation. Both use the Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 but serve different roles.
